Iran suspends cooperation with IAEA

Tehran ceases cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Abbas Arakchi, referring to the decision of the parliament, which came into force after approval by the Guardian Council, transmits The Times of Israel.

According to the minister, the corresponding draft law is already binding.

“The draft law, which was approved by the parliament and approved by the Guardian Council on June 26, is binding, and there is no doubt about its implementation. From now on, our relations and cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency will take a new form.” Abbas Arakchi said on state television.

So far, the IAEA cannot say for sure whether the Israeli and US attacks have significantly set back Iran’s nuclear program — for years or just months.

It will be recalled that on June 22, the US armed forces struck a number of facilities of the Iranian nuclear program in Fordo, Natang and Isfahan, including the locations of centrifuges for uranium enrichment. The Pentagon announced the complete destruction of the Iranian nuclear program. US President Donald Trump announced “monumental damage” to Iranian facilities.

On June 25, in response to the actions of the US, the Iranian parliament passed a draft law on the termination of cooperation with the IAEA. After the US airstrikes, Iran also threatened to withdraw from one of the key international nuclear treaties.
