Japan and Ukraine strengthen strategic partnership in agricultural recovery

Japan and Ukraine deepen strategic cooperation in the direction of the restoration of the agrarian sector. Representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) expressed their readiness to continue the implementation of joint initiatives aimed at the modernization of agriculture.

Such agreements were the result of the fourth meeting of the Japanese-Ukrainian joint working group on the strategy for the recovery of the agricultural industry (JTF), which was held in the format of an online conference. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, leading Japanese companies and international partners.

Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Denys Bashlyk emphasized the importance of developing Ukrainian-Japanese cooperation in the agricultural sector, especially in the direction of introducing modern Japanese technologies, digital tools and innovations in Ukrainian agriculture. The Ukrainian side presented an updated analytical report on the state of the agricultural industry.

In the course of the discussion, the Ukrainian participants drew attention to the consequences of a full-scale war: a decrease in the area of cultivated land, damaged infrastructure, loss of equipment and a reduction in production capabilities. Despite these challenges, the agricultural sector will continue to be a key element of the Ukrainian economy.

One of the topics of the meeting was the prospects for expanding export directions with an emphasis on the markets of the European Union, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The event was also attended by representatives of Japanese companies NTC International, Greein Inc., Seiwa Co., Zensho Holdings and Mayekawa MFG, who presented projects supporting the agricultural sector of Ukraine.
