Klitschko suspends first deputy Povoroznyk pending investigation into Day of Mourning celebrations (video)

On June 30, the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko stated about the initiation of an official investigation and the temporary suspension of his first deputy Mykola Povoroznyk from his duties due to the scandal that broke out around the celebration on the Day of Mourning.

The mayor confirmed that he signed the decision adopted by the deputies regarding Povoroznyk.

“However, I want to emphasize that we must all act in accordance with the law. The mechanism of appointment and dismissal of the first deputy head of the KMDA is clearly regulated by the law of Ukraine. And no matter how someone tries to break it, I will not do it. Just as I will not cover for anyone.” – emphasized Klitschko.

He specified that he had decided to conduct an official inspection regarding the possible celebration, noting that the deputies who initiated this issue would be involved in the investigation. During the inspection, the first deputy will not be on duty.

We will remind, on April 27, the Informer edition reported, that Mykola Povoroznyk celebrated his birthday during the working day and on the Day of Mourning — after the massive rocket attack on April 24. The event allegedly took place on the territory of the Vyshgorod Water Canal, located near the Kyiv Sea, with the participation of other KMDA officials. Journalists released a video from the scene.

In response to the plot, Povoroznyk stated that the video was deliberately edited with a manipulative purpose:

“There was no celebration, music, gifts, fun.”

He also added that the journalist saw everything personally. At the same time, he accused the central government of trying to discredit the city leadership, calling himself “another target”.
