Ukraine returned the bodies of 250 fallen defenders to their homeland

The bodies and remains of the deceased will be taken to the relevant state institutions.

On August 2, Ukraine announced the return of the bodies of 250 fallen defenders. About this informs Coordinating headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war in Telegram.

“As a result of repatriation measures, the bodies of 250 fallen defenders were returned to Ukraine”, – the message states.

The bodies of the fallen soldiers were returned from various directions where they defended Ukraine, namely:

  • Luhansk direction
  • Bakhmut direction
  • Mariinsky direction
  • Avdiyiv direction
  • Kherson direction
  • Zaporozhye direction
  • Mariupol
  • Gorlovka
  • Morgues on the territory of the Russian Federation

The repatriation of the bodies took place thanks to the joint efforts of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Ministry of Reintegration, the Commissioner for Missing Persons, the Joint Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Central Security Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other law enforcement agencies, departments, and international organizations.

Further steps

After returning to Ukraine, the bodies and remains of the deceased will be delivered to the relevant state institutions. There, representatives of law enforcement agencies and forensic medical experts will deal with the identification of the dead. After identification, the bodies will be handed over to their families for burial.
