Legalization instead of deportation: Biden wants to grant citizenship to 500 thousand migrants

While one of the key areas discussed by Donald Trump during the election campaign is the fight against illegal migration and the deportation of foreigners, his rival Joseph Biden announced his intention to grant citizenship to about 500,000 migrants. These are spouses or husbands (civil partners) of citizens of the United States.
“Today, I’m announcing a common-sense decision to streamline the process of obtaining legal status for immigrants married to American citizens who live here and have lived here for a long time. For those spouses or husbands and their children who lived in America with U.S. citizens for ten years or more but do not have legal status, these changes mean the opportunity to apply for legal status in the United States.” – saying Joe Biden.
The Interior Department’s policy, known as Parole in Place, will allow immigrants to apply for a work permit and protection from deportation if they have lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years and meet other requirements.
The program requires spouses to submit required documents and pass a criminal background check, and does not apply to prospective migrants. The president announced that the changes to the legislation announced by him will enter into force already this summer.
