North Korea’s official media reported the visit as much more subdued, noting that Kim Jong-un’s involvement in the rescue operation was described in sufficient detail for the first time, including reports of casualties. According to the report, Kim arrived in the flooded provinces on his train, then, accompanied by officials, on five inflatable boats, went directly to the affected villages.

The tree incident happened during a water ride when the branches almost threw Kim overboard. The angry leader sparked a wave of discussion on social media over the fate of the boatman who made the mistake.
After the inspection, Kim Jong-un held an extraordinary extended meeting of the Politburo of the 8th Convocation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in the carriage of his train. He expressed great concern over the flooded areas and promised to take powerful state measures to restore and improve the living conditions of the population.
