Lubinets voices statistics of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russians

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has officially recorded more than 100 cases of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian occupiers. However, according to the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada, Dmytro Lubinets, the real number of these terrible crimes may be much higher. He informed about this in interview for Radio NV.

“As far as I know, according to information from the OGP, there are more than 100 recorded cases of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russians. The total number of recorded Ukrainian prisoners of war executed by the Russians is 102 at the moment”, – said Lubinets.

The Ombudsman also explained that in reality the number of such cases is much higher, but Ukraine does not have an effective mechanism for their official confirmation. He emphasized that the detection of such crimes is often complicated by the lack of indisputable evidence, such as video, which, for example, can be shot by Ukrainian drones during the identification of the actions of Russians. If the information is obtained from other sources, such as testimony or documentary evidence, they must be additionally checked, which delays the process of legal recognition of the crime. In addition, Russian prisoners of war who testify are often unable to provide detailed information, which also complicates the verification process.

Lubinets emphasized that such actions have already become a systematic practice for the Russian occupiers, however, according to him, the international community continues to ignore these facts. He added that, despite the obviousness of the crimes, there is still no serious reaction from other countries or international organizations.
