Lukashenka says Belarus should become a participant in talks between Ukraine and Russia

The President of Belarus, Oleksandr Lukashenko, said that the country led by him should participate in any negotiations between Ukraine and Russia regarding the end of the war, as, in his opinion, Belarusian interests can also be discussed at these meetings. He made such a statement during a meeting with Belarusian scientists and participants of Antarctic expeditions, the video of which was published by the “Pul Pervogo” Telegram channel.

“I always insisted, and I told the Ukrainians about it, the Russians, and I warned Putin that Belarusians should be present at the negotiations regarding Ukraine.”, Lukashenko said.

According to him, such negotiations may affect issues concerning Belarus and may have serious consequences for its territorial integrity. Lukashenko expressed fears that decisions may be made that will threaten the loss of territories.

“They don’t go as far as Gomel Polissia there. That’s not the point. But they can make such decisions that tomorrow half of the country will have to be given away.”, he stated, without specifying who exactly these territories threaten.

Lukashenko was also indignant that, according to him, “schemes” were being made to prevent him from participating in the negotiations, but he did not specifically name whom he meant.

At the same time, Ukraine officially declares that it is not negotiating with Russia to end the war, since the main condition is the liberation of all Ukrainian territories within the internationally recognized borders of 1991.

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented a victory plan, in which he emphasized the need to force Russia to negotiate from a position of strength and return all occupied territories.
