French President Emmanuel Macron has initiated discussions on the possibility of using French nuclear weapons to protect the entire European Union. He stated this in his address to the nation, informs The World.
“Our nuclear deterrent forces protect us. They are French. Since 1964, they have always played a role in maintaining peace and security in Europe. I have decided to also start strategic discussions on our defense of the entire continent with our nuclear weapons. The decision will depend on the heads and commanders of European countries,” – said Macron.
He emphasized the need to strengthen the defense capabilities of France against the background of the unstable position of the United States. According to him, France allows the placement of its nuclear weapons on the territory of allies in order to replace the “core” of the United States of America in Europe. Also, France is considering the placement of its fighter jets with nuclear weapons in Germany.
It will be recalled that on January 23, Donald Trump emphasized the importance of global denuclearization and offered to involve China and Russia in this process.
