Minister of Energy of Ukraine Galushchenko appealed to the European community because of the threat of interruption of electricity supply from Slovakia

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko made a call to international organizations in response to the statements of the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, about the possible termination of electricity supply to Ukraine. The appeal was addressed to the EU Energy Commissioner, ENTSO-E and the Energy Community, about which the Minister reported during the “Edyny Novyni” telethon.
Galushchenko emphasized that Slovakia’s decision to stop exporting electricity to Ukraine would be a gross violation of European regulations. At the same time, he noted that Ukraine has alternative mechanisms that will allow the import of electricity to be replaced by other suppliers. According to him, relevant negotiations with neighboring countries have already taken place, and they are ready to increase the volume of exports to Ukraine.
The minister emphasized that the import of electricity from Slovakia is caused solely by the consequences of Russian aggression, in particular, the occupation of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the long-term destruction of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Galushchenko noted that President Volodymyr Zelensky clearly outlined this connection, stressing that this situation is a direct result of Russia’s actions.
In addition, the Ukrainian minister reported that the country has completed all preparatory measures to ensure a stable gas supply in the event of a complete cessation of transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory from January 1, 2025. He emphasized that the national gas system passed a series of stress tests, which confirmed its ability to supply consumers even under the conditions of a complete stop of transit.
We will remind, the day before the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, said that his country will stop supplying electricity to Ukraine if Kyiv stops the transit of Russian gas. This statement was made after his face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. According to Fico, he warned the leadership of the European Union about this visit.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the actions of the Slovak prime minister, noting that Fico’s main goal is cooperation with Russia, which is in his interests. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is already actively working with other neighboring EU countries to reduce dependence on Slovak electricity supply.
