More and more “military tourists” are coming to Ukraine to see the consequences of the war

The number of foreigners who want to see with their own eyes the consequences of the war in Ukraine is growing. They visit the country as part of the so-called “military tourism”. About this informs Picture.

These are mainly travelers from Europe and the USA who join the so-called “black tourism”. This branch of the tourism industry specializes in visiting places associated with tragedies and disasters. In Ukraine, about ten companies already offer such tours.

Most of the routes are concentrated in Kyiv and its suburbs, where mass crimes against the civilian population were committed during the Russian occupation. The cost of such excursions ranges from 150 to 250 euros. Part of the income from military tours goes to support the Ukrainian army, and the organizers emphasize that these trips “are not about making money, but about preserving the memory of the war.”

Svetozar Moiseyev, manager of the Capital Tours Kiev tourism company, noted that these tours have primarily an educational purpose. According to him, they serve as a kind of “vaccine that helps prevent the recurrence of similar tragedies in the future.”

Deputy of the Irpin City Council Mykhailyna Skoryk-Shkarivska, whose words are quoted by the publication, said that the majority of local residents seem to support this format of tourism.
