Russia is waging an information war against mobilisation in Ukraine: CPJ
Russian propaganda intensified its efforts to disrupt the mobilization processes in Ukraine by spreading manipulative messages about recent checks carried out by employees of territorial procurement centers (TCC). About this informs Center for Combating Disinformation (CCP) on October 12.
According to the CPD, the Russian media is deliberately distorting the situation, presenting the events that took place in Kyiv the day before as “lawlessness”. Propagandists try to exaggerate the significance of these incidents by giving them a wider context than they actually have.
The number of publications on social networks and media that actively promote anti-mobilization narratives is increasing. Among them:
- “mobilization in Ukraine is socially unjust”;
- “the Ukrainian authorities want to fight to the last Ukrainian”;
- “Ukraine has no future.”
However, Russian propagandists are silent about the harsh mobilization measures being carried out in Russia itself, hiding from the public the true scale of mobilization on their territory.
The CPD emphasizes that the announcement of general mobilization in Ukraine after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion is a forced step necessary to protect the country from the aggressor. At the same time, all actions of TCC employees are carried out in strict accordance with the legislation and their powers.
We will remind you that the incident, which became the reason for spreading misinformation, happened on October 11 near the Palace of Sports in Kyiv during Okeanu Elsa’s concert. TCC employees together with the National Police checked the men’s military registration documents. Those who refused to show their documents or who had violations were detained to clarify the circumstances and taken to the TCC. Some men, whose documents were in order, were issued summonses and released.
