More than 500 children died in Ukraine due to Russian aggression: data from the Prosecutor General’s Office

Kharkiv Oblast is one of the regions where the largest number of children became victims of Russia's actions, 402 such cases were recorded in more than two years.

According to data as of the morning of July 3, 2024, since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 555 children have died, of which 1,429 have received injuries of varying degrees of severity. This is stated in messages in the Office of the Prosecutor General.

It is noted that a total of more than 1,984 children suffered in Ukraine due to the full-scale war of the Russian Federation. The Kharkiv region has become one of the regions where the largest number of children became victims of the actions of the Russian army, during this time 402 such cases are known.

The list of regions with the largest number of affected children includes:

  • Donetsk – 552;
  • Khersonska – 154;
  • Dnipropetrovsk – 155;
  • Kyivska – 131;
  • Zaporizhzhia – 121.

In addition, the Prosecutor General’s Office added that on July 3, a 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were wounded in the shelling of the city of Kharkiv.

It is worth noting that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, about 15,000 children have been left without parental care, 1,855 of them due to the death of their parents. In order for children not to be left alone, they began to create family-type children’s homes, which are considered an alternative to boarding schools for orphans and children deprived of parental care. Currently, there are more than 1,300 family-type children’s homes in Ukraine, in which about 9,000 children are raised.
