Return of all Ukrainian children and prisoners is possible only after deoccupation: Ombudsman of Ukraine

Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said that the return of all Ukrainian children, civilian hostages and prisoners of war will be possible only after the liberation of the occupied territories. He announced this during the telethon.
“I know that the return of all Ukrainian children, civilian hostages and prisoners of war will take place only when the Ukrainian army liberates all the occupied territories, we will enter the borders of 1991. After the Russian Federation understands that the Ukrainian army can move on”, – he explained.
The Ombudsman stressed that during the upcoming negotiations, Ukraine will insist on the immediate return of all children, civilians and prisoners of war.
Lubinets also warned that every day 1.5 million Ukrainian children who are in the occupied territories are at risk of deportation to Russia.
Regarding the return of prisoners, in particular Crimean Tatars and residents of Crimea, Lubinets noted that the situation remains extremely difficult. The Russian side refuses to discuss the issue of their release.
“The situation is very difficult. According to our data, there are 219 Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia. Unfortunately, the Russians do not want to raise the issue of their return at all.”, – said Lubinets.
As you know, the European Court of Human Rights made a decision in the case “Ukraine v. Russia”, which became the first where an international court found Russia responsible for large-scale and systematic violations of human rights in the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Sevastopol.
