Mozilla announces the closure of the Pocket service

Mozilla announced about closing its Pocket service, which was acquired by the company in July 2017. In addition, the company that develops the Firefox browser is ending support for the Fakespot extension, which was created to verify the authenticity of online product reviews.
Pocket, which allowed you to save articles and other web pages for later viewing, will officially end on July 8, 2025. Since May 22, the application is no longer available for download, as well as the subscription to Pocket Premium.
Users who had an annual subscription will be refunded on July 8. All data can be exported or saved until October 8, 2025, after which it will be automatically deleted.
“Pocket has helped millions save articles and find stories worth reading. But the way people store and consume content online has changed, so we’re focusing our resources on projects that better suit today’s browsing habits. Discovery also continues to grow; Pocket helped shape the curated content recommendations you already see in Firefox, and that experience will continue to improve.” – says the company’s statement.
The Fakespot extension will be closed even earlier – on July 1, 2025. On this day, users will lose access to the extension, mobile app and website. Additionally, the Fakespot-based Review Checker feature in Firefox will end on June 10.
“We acquired Fakespot in 2023 to help people navigate fake product reviews using artificial intelligence and privacy-first technology. While the idea resonated, it didn’t fit a model we could support”, Mozilla explained.
The company thanked the community for supporting both services and said it would focus on developing new features in Firefox. In particular, tab grouping has recently been introduced and AI search testing using Perplexity models has begun.
