Musk plans to release 5000 Optimus robots by the end of 2025

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the company’s ambitious plans for the production of Optimus humanoid robots. During a meeting with employees, he reported, that in 2025 the company plans to complete the first production cycle, having produced 5,000 robots.
According to Musk, Tesla aims to accumulate enough components to create up to 12,000 of these robots, but given the novelty of the product, expects to actually be able to produce exactly 5,000 units. He compared this number to the size of a Roman legion, which he said was both admirable and somewhat disturbing.
Musk elaborated on the production plans, noting that the product has the potential to generate more than $10 trillion in revenue. Previously, the head of Tesla and SpaceX estimated the cost of one Optimus robot in the range of 20,000 to 30,000 dollars.
Optimus robots have been under development since 2021. Musk calls them the greatest product of all time. The first prototype was presented in 2022, and in 2024, during the presentation of the Cybercab, Tesla showed a demonstration of the robots in full size.
The company plans to gradually increase production and reach 50,000 units in 2026. According to Tesla, Optimus robots will be able to perform routine and dangerous tasks, opening new perspectives for automation in various industries.
