Mykhailo Drapaty officially completed the duties of the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and summed up the results of their work.
“I have completed six months of work as the commander of the Ground Forces. I am leaving my post with a clear conscience – and with the hope that everything important that we have started will be continued and brought to an end.” – said Drapaty.
According to him, the command of the Ground Forces is “only at the beginning of the process of change”. He noted that at the time of his appointment, the command of the Ground Forces was in a state of “management stagnation”, and the “spirit of development” was “completely absent” there. Over the course of six months, it was possible to update almost half of the leadership in key areas that depend on the effective formation and development of the modern army.
“I am leaving behind a strong team – combative, proactive, result-oriented. These are people who are not afraid to take responsibility, make decisions, change approaches. They are able to continue the transformation that we have started.” Drapaty emphasized.
According to the military, the command is gradually changing the culture of fear to a culture of responsibility:
“Decisions are made not based on status or loyalty, but on the basis of analysis, results and respect for the subordinate.”
We will remind you that on June 1, 2025, Russia launched a missile attack on the location of the training unit of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a result of the attack, 12 soldiers were killed and more than 60 were injured. Due to this tragedy, the commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Drapaty, resigned. He noted that, as a commander, he was unable to fully ensure the execution of his orders: “I did not pressure, did not convince, did not change the attitude towards a person in the formation. This is my responsibility.”
