Naftogaz plans to conduct seismic exploration in western Ukraine

JSC “Ukrgazvydobuvannya”, which is part of the “Naftogaz” Group, plans to start seismic research on the territory of 230 square kilometers in the western part of Ukraine. About this reported Serhii Koretskyi, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
“For a long time, this region was not in focus due to the depletion of deposits – compared to the east, it was considered less promising. But modern seismic exploration opens up new opportunities: it allows more accurate detection of gas where it was impossible before. We expect that the results of new research will allow drilling to begin as early as 2026-2027.”, – explained Serhii Koretskyi.
Between 2019 and 2023, the company has already conducted seismic surveys on an area of about 1,600 square kilometers in this region. This made it possible to lay more than ten new wells. Among them, four showed initial flow rates at the level of 80,000 to 270,000 cubic meters of gas per day — indicators that are considered significant for the area, where production began back in 1912. Over the past five years, Ukrgazvydobuvannya has increased gas reserves in the region by 2.4 billion cubic meters.
As a reminder, in May 2025, Naftogaz Group enterprises paid more than 7.8 billion hryvnias in taxes, fees and mandatory payments to the state budget. Of this amount, 7.2 billion hryvnias were directed to the state budget, and 640 million to local budgets. Since the beginning of the year, the Group’s companies have transferred UAH 38.1 billion of tax revenues to the budget.
