Drivers face strict restrictions: not everyone will be allowed to drive
Ukrainian drivers may soon face new restrictions on driving vehicles. Bill №8082, which has already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, provides for the introduction of new requirements that will apply to certain categories of drivers.
This time, the changes will apply to elderly drivers, for whom restrictions on the right to drive a car may be introduced. In particular, the authors of the initiative propose to establish a maximum age, after reaching which drivers will be required to regularly undergo a cognitive function test. These tests will assess their ability to drive safely.
As the authors of the draft law note, their proposals are based on the experience of the European Union, where they are already actively working on restricting the rights of older drivers. In the EU, drivers who have reached the age of 65 must undergo regular medical examinations to confirm their ability to drive safely. Over time, these inspections become annual.
It is planned to introduce similar measures in Ukraine. Under the previous version of the law, drivers who have reached the age of 65 will have additional requirements, and at the age of 70 and 75, these requirements will become even more stringent.
If older drivers fail the required tests, they may lose their driving privileges. However, the final decision on this issue has not yet been made, as deputies continue to discuss specific restrictions and have not reached a consensus on their implementation.
