NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyi denied Petro Poroshenko’s accusations and called for the release of evidence

The head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pishnyi, publicly reacted to the statement of the leader of the European Solidarity party and former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, who accused the regulator of interfering in the activities of his charitable funds and of fulfilling a political order. In his post, Facebook, published on April 12, Pyshnyi categorically rejected such accusations and called them groundless.

Explaining the situation, Pyshnyi emphasized that the National Bank did not initiate an audit of either the Poroshenko Foundation, the Roshen Foundation, or the public organization Sprava Hromad. According to him, it is about a planned inspection of the International Investment Bank itself, in which the account of Poroshenko’s charity fund has been opened. This bank, as the head of the NBU emphasized, is owned by the politician himself, and as early as December 2024 it was officially announced that the planned inspection of this institution would begin.

Pishnyi assured that the inspection concerns only the bank itself, and not the customers who use it. At the same time, according to the head of the NBU, no violations have been detected during the inspection so far, and it does not interfere with the day-to-day work of the financial institution and its clients.

Separately, Pyshnyi commented on the information according to which the National Bank allegedly requested data on aid recipients from charitable organizations. He explained that the focus of financial monitoring is on something completely different: on transactions related to delays in the return of foreign exchange and non-delivery of paid goods in the period of the last three years.

The head of the NBU stated that Poroshenko’s post provoked a wave of manipulation aimed at discrediting the regulator. He noted that for the first time during his tenure, the National Bank was openly accused of political involvement, and such statements, in his opinion, have no basis.

Andriy Pishny called on Poroshenko to confirm his words by publishing evidence of pressure, if any. In particular, he asked for official letters or requests that could confirm allegations of NBU interference. In the absence of such evidence, Pyshnyi demands that Poroshenko refute his public statements.

We will remind, earlier Petro Poroshenko stated on his Facebook page that he received official notices about the verification of the activities of his organizations – the charitable foundation, the Roshen Foundation and the NGO Sprava Hromad. According to him, the National Bank seemed to be interested in the criteria by which the fund selects donors, and how it is determined who exactly receives charitable assistance.

The politician stated that clear answers were given to these requests: in particular, more than two hundred military formations — including brigades, battalions, volunteer units and Special Operations Forces — receive charitable support. At the same time, Poroshenko called the actions of the regulator an attempt at pressure and described the issues as absurd. Currently, the situation is becoming public. The issue is not only in the field of financial supervision, but also in the field of political responsibility – from both sides.
