Ombudsman Lubinets warned the families of prisoners of war about fraudsters on the network

Scammers on social media pose as released POWs or active duty military personnel to extort money from relatives of captured or missing military personnel. About this reported ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.

“I urge you to be especially vigilant, because fraudsters can use the extreme exchange of prisoners of war for their own profit”, says the message.

According to Lubinets, criminals create fake accounts in social networks where they present themselves as discharged military personnel or those who are in service. They claim to have information about captured or missing soldiers and offer it for money. Fraudsters can also ask for funds for the needs of other “search participants”.

In addition, thematic channels are appearing in Telegram, where relatives of prisoners of war are being tried to deceive by luring out personal data or other important information.

“Don’t believe this! Do not send money under any circumstances! Scammers are hiding behind these pages and social network profiles!”, Lubinets emphasized.

We remind you that as of the beginning of 2024, almost 30,000 military and civilian Ukrainians received the status of missing. In total, 59,000 people are wanted.
