One of the world’s largest container transportation operators returns to Ukraine

The French company “CMA CGM”, which is one of the top three operators of sea container transportation in the world, is resuming its activities in Ukraine. For this informs Center for Transport Strategies.
At the end of January, “CMA CGM” will launch a new “Odessa Express (ODX)” service, which will connect Odessa, Piraeus and Istanbul. Two vessels will be used to service the route: “Lila Canada”, with a capacity of 1,118 TEU, and “TJ Orhan”, with a capacity of 1,550 TEU. The first flight of “TJ Orhan” from Piraeus is scheduled for January 24, and the transit time to Odesa will be four days.
In addition to CMA CGM, another shipping company, Medkon Lines, announced the resumption of transportation between Turkey and Ukraine from mid-January. In Ukraine, “CMA CGM” is represented by the company “SMA CGM Shipping Agencies Ukraine”, which acts as a line agent of the French container carrier. The company’s offices are located in Odesa and Kyiv.
“CMA CGM” will be the second major maritime operator to resume its own transportation to Ukraine after “Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC)”. In July, the container ship “MSC Levante” made its first voyage to the port of Odessa since the beginning of February 2022, marking an important step in the resumption of maritime transport.
