Parliament approves draft law on the status of combat medics in first reading

On October 10, the Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 11423, which establishes the legal basis for tactical prehospital care and civil-military cooperation, as well as regulates the status of combat medics. People’s deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this.

The bill was supported by 228 votes of deputies. It defines for the first time at the legislative level the concepts of tactical prehospital care and civil-military cooperation, which are important elements of modern military medicine and the cooperation of the army with civil structures.

According to the explanatory note to the document, the adoption of this law will allow military personnel of the defense and security forces who have undergone special training to provide pre-hospital medical care with the use of medical interventions and medicines. This will significantly increase the effectiveness of providing first aid directly in the combat zone.

In addition, the draft law is aimed at integrating the standards of the armed forces of NATO countries into the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Special attention is paid to civil-military cooperation, which involves the creation of effective interaction between the military and the civilian environment — with authorities, local self-government, public organizations and international partners. This should increase the combat potential of the Armed Forces during the execution of tasks in combat zones.

We would like to remind that from April 2024, new training courses for mobilized medics at the Military Medical Academy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began in Ukraine, within which new methods of assigning officer ranks were introduced.
