Passenger plane crashes in Brazil, killing nine people

A passenger plane crashed in southern Brazil, killing nine people. About this informs DW.

“Civil defense confirmed nine dead, no one on board the plane survived”. – said Kleber dos Santos Lima, director of the Rio Grande do Sul state civil police department.

At least 15 people were hospitalized, mostly due to smoke inhalation from the fire that followed the crash. According to preliminary data, the plane touched the chimney of the building, crashed into the second floor of a residential building, and then fell into a furniture store.

The plane took off from Canela Regional Airport near Gramado and was heading to Florianopolis, a popular tourist town during the Christmas season.

Gramadu, located in the south of the country, is famous for its German architecture and picturesque mountain landscapes, making it an attractive tourist destination.
