Passengers keep complaining about Russian music in transport: language ombudsman

The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremin, held a meeting with the head of the State Transport Safety Service of Ukraine, Yevhen Zborovsky, during which the issue of the use of the Ukrainian language in the transport sector was discussed.
Kremin supported the service’s initiative to update the names of streets in the route maps of carriers and called for proper implementation of the legislation through the campaign #Derusify_your_bus. He also stressed the importance of monitoring compliance with language regulations, as citizens continue to complain of violations of their rights due to the use of inappropriate service language in transport, including signs, signs and music played by drivers.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language”, which stipulates that all services, information, announcements and inscriptions in transport must be provided in the Ukrainian language.
