Polish customs officers seized 5 tons of tires for Boeing aircraft being transported to Russia

On May 19, the National Tax Administration of Poland confiscated five tons of tires intended for civilian Boeing aircraft that were subject to European Union sanctions and were transiting to Russia. About this informs Reuters.
“Officers discovered during an inspection of the truck in Koroschyna (a checkpoint on the border with Belarus) that the driver was transporting tires used in civilian Boeing aircraft, instead of the declared car and bus tires,” – it is stated in the message of the National Tax Administration.
It is reported that the goods were sent by a company from Spain, and a small company registered in Azerbaijan received them.
“According to the fact of customs fraud, criminal tax proceedings have been initiated. Sanctioned goods have been detained”, added the Polish customs officials.
Despite the sanctions in the aviation sector, Russia continues to receive spare parts for vehicles from the French company Airbus and the American Boeing. According to Russian customs data, in 2022 aviation components from Boeing, Airbus and other manufacturers worth millions of dollars were imported into the Russian Federation.
Thousands of consignments of aircraft spare parts, which are subject to sanctions restrictions, reached Russia. The recipients of these goods were, in particular, the airlines “Russia”, “Aeroflot”, “Ural Airlines”, S7 Airlines and “Pobeda”. For its part, Boeing emphasized that the company “fully complied with the US sanctions and suspended the supply of spare parts, maintenance and technical support to customers in Russia in early 2022.”
