More than half of Poles do not plan to undergo basic military training announced by the government
More than half of Poles do not plan to undergo basic military training, which the government wants to make available to all who wish. This is evidenced by the results of the Opinia24 survey, informs RMF FM.
The survey was conducted after Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the Minister of Defense announced plans to organize large-scale basic military training courses. According to Tusk, there are many people in Poland who are ready to defend their country, so the state should provide an opportunity to acquire relevant knowledge and skills. He emphasized that by 2027, Poland should train up to 100,000 volunteers annually.
During the survey, respondents were asked whether they would take the opportunity to undergo military training. 35% of respondents gave a positive answer, of which 14% declared unequivocal readiness, and 21% were rather ready to undergo training.
On the other hand, 54% of respondents said that they do not plan to go to study, among them 33% answered categorically “no”, another 21% – “rather not”.
Among men, 18% expressed an unequivocal willingness to study, another 23% are considering such a possibility. Among women, only 10% answered positively. By age, the group of respondents aged 50 to 59 showed the greatest interest in military training.
The level of support also varies by political affiliation. Among supporters of the opposition party “Law and Justice”, 15% expressed interest, among supporters of “Civic Platform” – 21%. Supporters of the “Third Way” coalition bloc showed the greatest interest in participating in the training — a total of 50% of respondents said they planned to undergo training. The survey was conducted from March 17 to 21 among a thousand adult respondents.
We will remind that in the spring the Ministry of Defense of Poland plans to hold a two-day military training for members of the parliament. Minister of Defense Vladyslav Kosinyak-Kamysh said that he will also undergo training.
