Professor of KNU Vasylenko may be fired for statements about “hungry Ukrainian women”

The professor of Taras Shevchenko KNU Institute of Journalism, Mykyta Vasylenko, who became the subject of a scandal because of his remarks about “hungry Ukrainian women”, may be fired. About this reported university rector Volodymyr Bugrov.

He said that he appealed to the ethics commission, which plans to consider this situation on December 26. If the professor’s statements are found to violate ethical standards, he will be given a second reprimand, which may be grounds for dismissal under labor law.

“Or the academic council of the Institute of Journalism will similarly recognize the inappropriate activity of Professor Vasylenko. Then, in a few days, the contract will be terminated.” Bugrov noted.

Vasylenko himself called the situation a “provocation” and apologized for the wording used, but did not renounce his meaning of the words.

“This is a literary expression and I apologize for the wording. But do you agree with the meaning? Do you think that I am sexist based on this post and should be expelled from the university?” he explained.

Vasylenko also noted that his words had a historical context, recalling similar examples from the times of Hermanrich and the Northern War. In his opinion, the idea of a cultural approach to marriages and the birth of children has a positive character.
