Protests in Tbilisi over the “Transparency of Foreign Influence” law: at least eight people were injured

Protests continue in Tbilisi against the draft law “On transparency of foreign influence”, which the parliament passed in the second reading on May 1. As a result of clashes with security forces, at least eight people were injured.

After the demonstrators began storming the parliament, law enforcement officers began to disperse them.

For message According to the Ministry of Health, people have recorded various injuries: injuries to the face, head and other parts of the body, as well as intoxication and breathing complications. This happened due to the use of tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets by security forces, although the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia officially denies the use of traumatic weapons.

In total, 20 ambulance teams are on duty near the parliament. Dozens of demonstrators and one MIA employee received medical aid.

Against the background of clashes, according to the order of the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili, from 11:00 p.m. on May 1, security measures were increased in the legislative body.

In connection with the attack on the building of the Parliament of Georgia, which poses a danger to the life and health of the persons staying in the palace, a “red level” of security has been announced. During its operation, all persons are obliged to leave the parliament building. An exception is allowed for persons who will be determined by the head of the administration of the parliament to prevent threats“, the statement of the parliament reads.
