China called on the US to cancel new tariffs and threatened to reverse steps

China has called on the United States to immediately reverse new tariff measures and said it intends to take appropriate action to protect its own interests after US President Donald Trump announced massive tariffs on all of the country’s trading partners. About this informs Reuters.

“China strongly opposes this and will take countermeasures to protect its rights and interests,” — said the Ministry of Trade of the People’s Republic of China.

The department also emphasized that the United States ignores the balance of interests achieved over the years of multilateral negotiations, as well as the fact that the American side has long been a significant beneficiary of international trade.

We will remind that on April 3, Donald Trump announced the introduction of 34% tariffs on imports from China, which will complement the previously introduced 20%. Thus, the total volume of tariffs will reach 54%, which is close to the 60% that Trump mentioned during the election campaign.

The US president also announced the signing of a “historic decree on the introduction of mutual tariffs for the countries of the world”, setting a base level of 10%. During the speech, he presented a table with examples of tariff rates that will be applied to various states, including the European Union and China.
