Russia destroyed all CHP plants that served Kharkiv: Shmyhal

As a result of the Russian attacks, all thermal power plants (CHPs) that supplied the city of Kharkiv with heat and electricity were destroyed. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said this on September 10 during a briefing in Kyiv.

He emphasized that due to the destruction of the key energy infrastructure in Kharkiv, the government focused its efforts on providing the city with heat in the winter period. For this purpose, mobile boiler houses will be delivered to Kharkiv.

“We concentrated on Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region, as we understand that the Russians actually destroyed all the CHP plants that were located around Kharkiv and provided it with energy. We are bringing there small mobile boilers of 1 MW, which will be installed by local authorities.”, — quotes premiere of “Strana” edition.

Shmyhal also said that this approach will be used in other cities of Ukraine that suffered from attacks on energy infrastructure. The government actively cooperates with international partners to ensure the sustainability of the energy system. He emphasized that the Ukrainian Energy Support Fund has already accumulated 560 million euros, thanks to which the purchase of equipment for distributed generation with a total capacity of 170 MW was financed.

In addition, there are currently 169 cogeneration plants in Ukrainian thermal energy enterprises, of which 83 have already been put into operation. Thanks to the support of international partners, the supply of another 291 installations and 101 block-modular boiler rooms has been confirmed.

“This is our stability reserve, which will allow us to ensure energy independence and stability in difficult conditions,” Shmyhal concluded.
