Salt production to resume at one of Ukraine’s oldest deposits

In the near future, one of the oldest salt deposits of Ukraine — Dolynsky, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, plans to resume production. About this reported Mayor of the Dolyna Territorial Community, Ivan Dyriv.
“Our salt deposit is one of the oldest in Ukraine – salt has been mined here since the 10th century. Until the middle of the 20th century, the Dolyna salt distilling plant was one of the largest enterprises in the city. Finally, after decades of decline, there is hope for Dolyna salt to return to its former glory.” Dyriv stressed.
He noted that work on the field development project is currently underway, and a thorough assessment of the impact on the environment is being carried out. Specialists of the State Research and Design Institute of Basic Chemistry “NIOKHIM” are involved in the creation of a project solution for the future plant.
“A special permit for the extraction of rock salt (halite) was won in 2023 by Kharkiv Planeta Comfort LLC. The head of this company took up the matter with great seriousness and scrupulousness, which inspires optimism about the future of Dolyna salt. His vision and dedication to the project are key factors in this revival.” Dyriv added.
It will be recalled that in April 2022, as a result of a full-scale invasion of Russia, the largest salt mining enterprise in Europe – State Enterprise “Artemsil” was stopped. In August 2023, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Transcarpathian salt deposit is capable of fully supplying Ukraine with cooking and technical salt. At the same time, in January 2025, the mining of rock salt at the Tereblyansky deposit in Zakarpattia Oblast had to be mothballed due to a conflict between the co-owners of the company operating there.
