SBU officers detained the mayor of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi: media
The representatives of the department continue their search in the premises of the city council.
In the Odesa region, the mayor of Belgorod-Dnistrovsky Vitaly Grazhdan was detained, and the building of the city council is being searched. About this informs edition “Dumska”.
The arrest of the mayor was carried out by employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). Also, in the building of the city council, department “K” (regarding the fight against corruption) works, conducting searches.
The Center for Public Investigations asked the SBU for a comment and received the answer: “At the moment operational and procedural actions are ongoing, we will be able to comment only after their completion.”
This is not the first detention of Vitaly Grazhdan. In 2022, SBU officers already conducted searches in his office and apartment, suspecting the mayor of fraud related to compensation for damages caused to one of the district’s facilities as a result of rocket fire.
Vitaly Grazhdan often becomes involved in scandals. In April 2024, he pushed or punched a boy during an argument with law enforcement officers at a local park. In July 2022, Grazhdan ended up in the hospital after a fight with the then head of the Belgorod-Dniester District Council Hryhoriy Melnychenko. The conflict arose over real estate.
After this incident, Hryhoriy Melnychenko turned to the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Maksym Marchenko, with a request to contact the President of Ukraine regarding the possibility of introducing a military administration in Belgorod-Dniester and removing the Citizen from his duties. The head of the military administration noted that such behavior is unacceptable.
Vitaliy Grazhdan was elected mayor in the local elections on October 25, 2020 from the “Opposition Platform — For Life” party. Hryhoriy Melnychenko became the chairman of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovka District Council on December 4, 2020, as a deputy from the “Trust in Business” party.
