South Korea’s Anti-Corruption Agency has asked police to arrest Yoon Suk-yeol

On January 6, South Korea’s anti-corruption agency appealed to the police to take responsibility for the detention of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was impeached by parliament for trying to impose martial law. About this reported Yonhap agency.
The Chief Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) sent a query to the police late last night as the arrest warrant was about to expire. At the same time, the CIO plans to apply to the court to extend the validity of the warrant.
“According to the Criminal Procedure Law, the arrest warrant must be executed by the police under the direction of the prosecutor. This means that the execution of the warrant can be entrusted to the police.” – explained CIO Deputy Chairman Lee Jae-sing.
The president’s lawyers insist that the anti-corruption agency does not have the legal authority to investigate cases related to the rebellion under South Korean law.
We remind you that on January 2, investigators were unable to execute the arrest warrant for Yoon Seok Yeol. The arrest was prevented by the presidential guard, due to which the confrontation on the territory of the residence lasted for six hours.
