Women in the US began to buy abortion pills en masse after Trump’s victory: WP
After the announcement of the results of the presidential election in the USA, where the Republican Donald Trump won, the number of orders for emergency contraception and abortion drugs increased sharply, informs The Washington Post.
Thus, on November 11, the demand for these medications increased significantly, according to data from American organizations that provide access to such drugs.
In particular, Aid Access, one of the largest platforms for providing abortion pills, reported 10,000 requests for the drug in the first 24 hours after the election – about 17 times the usual volume.
Just the Pill, a nonprofit that prescribes abortion pills, also noted that from November 6 to 8, 22 out of 125 orders came from people who were not pregnant. Representatives of the organization noted that such requests for “reserve medicine” are atypical.
The Plan C organization reported a rapid increase in traffic on its website — it was visited by 82,000 users per day, while before the election this indicator was about 4-4,500 visits per day.
Reproductive health companies also noted increased demand for emergency contraception and long-term contraceptives, such as IUDs and vasectomy.
National Abortion Federation President Brittany Fontenot said people are worried about possible restrictions on access to abortion under the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, on November 5, Election Day, voters in 10 states voted on 11 abortion-related initiatives.
