South Korea wants to lift restrictions on the supply of arms to Ukraine

Previously, South Korea’s support for Ukraine was manifested in the introduction of sanctions against Russia and humanitarian aid. After Putin’s visit to North Korea, Seoul said it would reconsider its decision to refuse to supply arms to the Ukrainians. In particular, the possibility of transferring air defense systems is being considered.
National Security Adviser Jang Ho-jin condemned the “comprehensive strategic agreement” signed during the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, which took place the day before in Pyongyang.
“The South Korean government expresses serious concern and condemns the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between North Korea and Russia, which is aimed at strengthening mutual military and economic cooperation,” – Chang stated during the briefing on Thursday, June 20.
According to the national security adviser, any cooperation that directly or indirectly contributes to the strengthening of North Korea’s military power is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions and will be subject to international control and sanctions. Jang Ho Jin promised to take appropriate measures.
“We plan to review the issue of supporting Ukraine with weapons. We will inform you about specific measures later. It will be interesting to see how Russia will react,” the politician said.
Sources in the South Korean government report that the possibility of providing air defense systems to Ukraine is being considered. The country also plans to introduce additional sanctions against four Russian ships, five organizations and eight individuals involved in the transfer of weapons and oil between Russia and North Korea.
