EU considers creating its own security structure
The European Union should create its own security organisation to complement NATO. This was stated by the President of the European Parliament Roberta Mecola in an interview with El Mundo.
‘I say the same thing when it comes to creating, for example, a real security and defence union. A union that we have been demanding for a long time, which would complement NATO and not compete with the EU,’ Mecola said.
She also stressed that Europe is in a situation of heightened instability due to the war in Ukraine unleashed by Russia, and the EU must be prepared for any challenges, regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election.
‘In January, there will be a new president, and therefore a new administration. There will also be a new Senate and a new Congress, which are our colleagues when it comes to voting on financial assistance to Ukraine. I hope that we can continue to work together,’ Metsola added.
