Amazon Abolishes Remote Work: Bringing Employees Back to Offices in 2025

Amazon is requiring its employees to return to office work for a full work week starting January 2, 2025. This information was disclosed by the CEO of the company, Andy Jassy, in a memo addressed to employees.
The decision was one of the toughest measures among large corporations to limit remote work, which has become commonplace since the pandemic. Jassi emphasized that the return to office mode will contribute to better cooperation and training of colleagues. He noted that the benefits of such work have become apparent in the past 15 months, when employees began working in offices at least three days a week.
“Before the pandemic, it was not a given that people could work remotely two days a week, and this will also be true in the future”, – said Jassi.
At the same time, he clarified that the company will continue to provide exceptions for employees in case of family emergencies or projects that require an isolated work environment.
In addition, Amazon plans to bring back the distribution of jobs, including its headquarters in the United States, in particular in Puget Sound and Arlington. In regions that already had a flexible organization of workplaces before the pandemic, including most European offices, this format of work will continue.
Amazon has been a leader in the movement to return to office work, which sets it apart from other tech companies like Google, which requires a three-day office visit, or startups that continue to work entirely remotely.
Back in May of last year, Amazon introduced a mandatory three-day office visit and strictly monitored its implementation, using badges to track the time employees were in the building. Employees who systematically ignored this rule were given a warning.
Andy Jassy, who has worked at Amazon since 1997, took over as CEO in 2021, succeeding founder Jeff Bezos.
