State Tax Service employees exposed for selling information from state databases

Law enforcement officers exposed employees of the State Tax Service of Ukraine who were involved in the illegal sale of data from state databases. Two tax officials and their accomplice were detained, all three were declared suspicious. About this reported press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
The operation was carried out by the joint efforts of the police, the Security Service of Ukraine and with the participation of the DPS leadership. According to the investigation, two employees of the tax service, aged 24 and 25, received confidential information from an internal database and passed it on to their accomplice, a 30-year-old unemployed resident of Chernivtsi region. He sold this data at a price of $100 to $300 to clients he found on a closed Russian hacking forum on the DarkNet.
“Payments were made exclusively in cryptocurrency, and the received funds were distributed among all participants of the scheme”, — are reported in the police
The prosecutor’s office specified that the suspects placed online advertisements for the sale of information with limited access, in particular, data on the income of individuals and legal entities, bank accounts, and financial transactions.
Separate messenger accounts were created for accepting orders and transmitting information. Law enforcement officers documented three cases of illegal copying and disclosure of protected information.
“During searches of the places of residence of the accused, the police seized computer, mobile equipment and flash drives, which confirm illegal operations”, – the message states.
The detainees are suspected of 3 Art. 362 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — “unauthorized copying and disclosure of information with limited access that was stored in automated information systems.” The sanction provides up to six years of imprisonment.
