Telegram has launched its own digital currency to pay for goods and services in mini-apps

The popular Telegram messenger presented own digital currency called Stars (“Stars”). This new currency will allow users to pay for a wide range of digital goods and services in Telegram mini-apps, including e-books, online courses, game items and more.

Stars can be purchased through the App Store and Google Play payment systems, as well as with the help of a special PremiumBot bot. Telegram promises to subsidize ads bought with Stars to offset the 30% commission charged by Apple and Google.

Developers of mini-apps will be able to convert received Stars into Toncoin cryptocurrency through the Fragment platform. Telegram also plans to expand the functionality of Stars in future updates, adding the ability to send gifts to content creators and other features.

The launch of Stars is said to be a significant step for Telegram to build its own ecosystem of digital payments and services.
