Law enforcement officers exposed a fraudulent call center operating in one of the villages of the Vinnytsia district. Criminals managed to withdraw hundreds of thousands of hryvnias from the cards of Ukrainians.

The man rented a house near Vinnytsia and set up a soundproof room with computer equipment for an underground call center. The 21-year-old accomplice of the fraudster was looking for people who agreed to “rent out” their bank cards to transfer the stolen funds.

Intruders, under the guise of bank employees, called people and asked them to provide passwords, codes or other information for authentication in online banking, allegedly in order to “protect accounts”. Sometimes the fraudsters managed to withdraw quite large sums from the victims’ accounts. For example, the criminals defrauded a 51-year-old resident of Khmelnytskyi of over 83,000 hryvnias, and a 65-year-old resident of the Lviv region was defrauded of about 17,000 hryvnias, the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported.

The law enforcement officers detained the fraudsters. During authorized searches of the premises of the call center, representatives of law enforcement agencies seized mobile phones, bank and SIM cards and other physical evidence.

According to the fact of the perpetrators, criminal proceedings have been opened. Each of the fraudsters faces up to eight years in prison.
