Ukraine lost 25% of its agricultural land during the war: Ministry of Agrarian Policy

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has lost 25% of agricultural land, which caused a decrease in the volume of production of agricultural products. About this reported Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaly Koval on the air of the national telethon.

“You and I understand that we lost 25% of all agricultural land during the war. Of course, this is a loss of significant volumes of cultivated products. If we compare, for example, the year 2021, which was fruitful and successful, we grew 106 million tons of grain and technical agricultural crops. Last year, 2024, we ended with an indicator of 77 million tons.” – said Koval.

The minister emphasized that a large part of agricultural land in Ukraine is not cultivated due to hostilities, mining or occupation. Vitaly Koval believes that the solution to this problem is the intensification of production. He positively assessed the support programs for farmers implemented in 2024 in the front-line and front-line territories, which brought an additional $1.5 billion to the state budget.

“These are several thousand brave farms that received help from the government for sowing the land of the frontline territories. There are several such programs. We are trying to help everyone who holds the agrarian front in their hands today. It is very important.” – emphasized the minister.

Vitaliy Koval reported that the government has set aside 1 billion hryvnias in the state budget for humanitarian demining by 2025. These funds will go directly to farmers to clear agricultural land. The government plans to demine at least 65,000 ha of agricultural land in the current year.
