Thanks to the contract between the Pentagon and SpaceX, 2.5 thousand terminals in Ukraine will be connected to a secure network

The Pentagon has entered into an agreement with SpaceX to connect 2,500 Starlink terminals in Ukraine to the protected Starshield network, which will provide more secure military communications. About this informs Bloomberg.

As part of the new agreement, 2,500 Starlink terminals already in use in Ukraine will have access to the Starshield network. This secret and encrypted system is an enhanced militarized version of Starlink, making it much more difficult to hack or jam. Before that, only 500 terminals were connected to Starshield.

“A total of 3,000 terminals are provided with services under two contracts”, the Space Systems Command’s Commercial Satellite Office said in a statement to Bloomberg News

This initiative aims to ensure more stable and secure Internet access in Ukraine until the contract expires in 2025.

The previous agreement between SpaceX and the Pentagon was concluded in August 2024, even before the victory of Donald Trump in the presidential elections. Although the value of the new contract has not been disclosed, it is known that the previous agreement with the US European Command to connect 500 terminals was worth approximately $40 million.
