The accused in the murder of Iryna Farion has his preventive measure extended until September 19

On July 21, the Shevchenkiv District Court of Lviv held another hearing in the case of Vyacheslav Zinchenko, accused of the murder of Iryna Farion. Court continued he was remanded in custody until September 19.

The hearing began at 11:12. Prosecutor Olena Danyliv, daughter of the deceased Sofia Osoba and lawyer Nataliya Romanyk were present in the hall. Zinchenko’s defense attorney Volodymyr Voroniak joined the process remotely. The court granted the request of the defense, and Zinchenko himself also joined the meeting through a video link from the pretrial detention center.

The prosecutor insisted on continuing detention without bail for 60 days. The victim’s representative supported the demand, citing the risks involved: according to her, after returning to Dnipro, Zinchenko tried to find weapons and looked for new victims. At the same time, the suspect’s lawyer asked to change the preventive measure to house arrest, stressing that Zinchenko has a permanent address and did not evade the investigation.

After the discussion, the judges went to the conference room. During the break, Voroniak discussed with the client the possibility of submitting a petition so that he could continue his studies remotely at the Dnipro National University named after Oles Honchar, majoring in journalism. However, an official appeal has not yet been submitted.

The court granted the request of the prosecutor, leaving the preventive measure unchanged — Zinchenko will remain in custody until September 19 inclusive. The next meeting is scheduled for August 22 at 10:30.

“Of course he was extended the term of detention, of course he will be in prison, and he will be in prison for life. This murder is a show murder, this is a detailed murder, which should carry an appropriate measure of punishment. All the evidence is in hand and we continue to work.” – Sofya Osoba commented on the court’s decision.

We will remind you that at the previous meeting on June 26, data from Zinchenko’s phone was examined. Among them were screenshots from the places where Farion lived and worked, as well as images with Nazi and Russian symbols and collages with the deceased.

Zinchenko is accused of premeditated murder on grounds of national intolerance, related to the victim’s performance of a public duty, as well as illegal handling of firearms (clauses 8, 14, part 2 of Article 115 and part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the National Police, he faces life imprisonment.

During the investigation, more than 60 examinations were conducted, more than 1,500 people were questioned and a large number of videos from surveillance cameras were processed. The indictment was submitted to the court on December 26, 2024. The defender of the accused, Ihor Sulima, clarified that the case has 30 volumes. The court continues to study the materials, including video evidence and expert opinions. Zinchenko remains in custody.
