The case against the leaders of the community of Dnipropetrovsk region has been referred to the court: investigation by the SBI

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation completed the pre-trial investigation investigation regarding the chairman of one of the city councils of the Dnipropetrovsk region and the secretary of the same council, who are accused of demanding a bribe in the amount of 30 thousand US dollars from an entrepreneur who planned to build a dormitory for displaced persons. The indictment was submitted to the court.

The situation arose around an unfinished school with an area of 4.5 thousand square meters, which had been abandoned on the territory of the community since the 90s. The entrepreneur offered to renovate this room and equip it as housing for displaced persons. Payment for accommodation was to be made by an international humanitarian organization.

When the entrepreneur approached the city council with this initiative, officials announced two options for solving the issue: either pay $50,000 to include the issue on the agenda of the council session and sign a memorandum on transferring the building to a long-term lease without holding a tender, or pay $30,000 from additional “rollbacks”.

In April 2024, the entrepreneur handed over 30,000 US dollars to the secretary of the city council right in his office. During the transfer of funds, both officials were arrested red-handed.

They are charged with extorting and receiving an unlawful benefit in a particularly large amount (Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of this article provides up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Procedural management in this case is carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
