Zelensky responded to Putin’s statement regarding the resumption of direct negotiations on a ceasefire.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Kyiv expects a clear confirmation from the Russian side about the readiness to stop hostilities starting from May 12. That’s what he’s about reported in a statement published on his official pages in social networks.

Zelensky emphasized that the ceasefire initiative is the first step towards a real end to the war. In his opinion, the very statement of the President of Russia on the resumption of direct negotiations is a “positive signal”, since for the first time in a long time the Russian side is showing readiness for dialogue.

“It is a good sign that the Russians have finally thought about the end of the war. Everyone in the world has been waiting for this for a long time. And the very first step in the real end of any war is a ceasefire.

There is no point in continuing the killings even for a day. We expect Russia to confirm a ceasefire – full, lasting and reliable – starting tomorrow, May 12, and Ukraine is ready to meet.” – said the President.

We will remind you that on the night of May 11, Vladimir Putin announced his intention to resume direct negotiations with Ukraine without any additional conditions. According to him, the meeting may take place on May 15 in Istanbul.

The statements were made after talks in Kyiv between the leaders of France, Germany, Great Britain, Poland and Ukraine, who also held a joint conversation with US President Donald Trump. The American leader supported the idea of an immediate 30-day truce — also without additional political demands.
