The Czech Republic offered assistance to Slovakia in case of termination of the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine

The Czech Republic offered Slovakia help in organizing the transportation and storage of gas in connection with the expected termination of the transit of blue fuel through Ukraine, which is supplied by the Russian Federation. About this reported Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic Lukasz Vlcek.

Vlcek sent a letter to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Slovakia Denisa Sakova, in which he offered to provide the necessary capacity to provide gas both in the current heating season and in the long term. In addition, he noted that such support will ensure affordable gas supply to Slovakia thanks to the abolition of the fuel storage fee in Germany.

“The cessation of gas transit through Ukraine may negatively affect the stability of supplies to some countries. Thanks to strategic investments and reliable infrastructure, the Czech Republic is ready for such a situation.”, – assured Vlcek.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, published an open letter to the EU leadership. In it, he stated that Ukraine’s decision to stop the transit of Russian gas will result in Slovakia losing more than €400 million a year due to transit fees and more than €1 billion due to the increase in the cost of raw materials. According to him, Ukraine will also lose almost €800 million and the opportunity to import gas from Europe.
