A unique museum of Ukrainian culture caught fire in Canada

A unique museum of Ukrainian culture caught fire near the Canadian city of Edmonton. The fire spread to the territory of the museum from a nearby field. About this informs press office of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police of the province of Alberta.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the fire reached the buildings of the Village of the Heritage of Ukrainian Culture, which is located near Edmonton. Due to thick smoke, residents of the surrounding areas were urged not to approach the danger zone and to use alternative routes.

The rescuers announced a temporary evacuation, but later it was canceled – the threat was contained. According to preliminary data, the ignition started on the field, after which the flame quickly spread to the museum buildings. The reasons for the grass fire are currently being investigated.

The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is a unique open-air museum where authentic Ukrainian buildings belonging to the first immigrants to Canada are preserved. The exposition reproduces the everyday life of Ukrainians in the period from 1892 to 1930.

We will remind you that at the end of last year, two Ukrainian historical monuments were included in the list of UNESCO objects – the Kyiv “Babyn Yar” nature reserve and the Odesa Literary Museum.
