The EU is preparing a plan ‘B’ in case Hungary vetoes Ukraine’s membership.

The European Union is preparing an alternative plan in case Hungary vetoes Ukraine’s accession to the EU. About this stated Kaya Callas, High Representative of the EU for Foreign and Security Policy.
She noted that the main plan is the support of Ukraine’s membership by all 27 EU member states.
“Ukraine has its homework, and the EU also has to do its homework. And we are working with the Hungarian government. But if it doesn’t work, we are already working on plan B, but I won’t reveal it. We are still in the process.” – said Kallas.
Kaya Kallas also characterized Ukraine’s European integration as “reunification”.
We would like to remind you that from the beginning of 2025, Hungary will block the opening of clusters regarding negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Representatives of the country’s government stated that “Ukraine’s membership in the EU will be a burden both for the bloc and for Hungary.”
The Minister of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna reported that since May 12, Kyiv and Budapest have agreed to hold regular consultations in order to remove the blockage from the negotiation process regarding the European integration of Ukraine.
Hungary also announced the holding of a consultative referendum on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. In the bulletin, the country’s government will outline seven so-called threats that Ukraine’s accession to the EU supposedly poses for Hungary. Voting will start in mid-April and will last until June 20. The results of the referendum are not binding on the government. In addition, the Hungarian government sent letters to citizens with a direct appeal to speak out against Ukraine’s accession to the European Union during the referendum.
