The EU paid for 1.5 years of war by buying energy from Russia: Top Lead

European countries continue to indirectly support Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine by purchasing Russian energy. Despite attempts to reduce its dependence on Russian resources, the EU has paid Russia about 204 billion euros for 1.5 years of imports, which covers Russia’s war expenses for a significant period. Russia’s average daily expenditure on military operations is about 36.6 million euros.

The data presented by the visual communications agency Top Lead demonstrates how individual EU countries have financially supported the Russian economy, allowing Vladimir Putin to continue his aggression against Ukraine.

Germany was the largest importer of Russian energy, spending 28.7 billion euros, which is equivalent to 79 days of war funding. The second largest is Italy, which paid Russia 19.3 billion euros, thus covering 53 days of military operations. It is followed by the Netherlands with a payment of 18.8 billion euros, which is equal to 52 days of Russian military spending.

The list of the largest payers also includes Hungary and France, which paid 17.5 and 15.8 billion euros, respectively, financing 48 and 44 days of war.

Also in the top ten are:

Belgium – 41 days of funding;

  • Slovakia – 32 days;
  • Greece – 31 days;
  • Poland – 30 days;
  • Spain – 29 days.
